Tea, coffee and biscuits were laid on for the elderly and the handicapped as they waited for the Queen outside the Mechanics. Sainsbury's, Marks and Spencer and Leo's donated the goods, which were prepared by the Social Services department in Chaddesley House, opposite the Mechanics. The refreshments were very welcome as the crowds waited in the cold for the Queen to come out, after officially opening the Mechanics.
