The winner receiving the Golden Cue trophy from Mr. Ernest Leah, with Mr. Bob Ashworth (referee), Albert day, and Mr. H. Lobick (marker).
Padiham's Bob Catlow won the Golden Cue snooker trophy for the second time in three years at the Municipal Hall, Colne on Tuesday the 2nd June when he defeated Albert Day (Nelson Old Band) by four frames to two. Neither player was satisfied with his own individual performance in a dour final. Albert Day, the Nelson-Colne-Barnoldswick area champion, described his form as "I was shocking". Catlow said that he was far from happy with his own display and had been fortunate to win. "I did not play nearly as well as when I won two years ago" - and those who saw that match when he defeated Edmund "Chico" Birtwistle will agree.
Mr. Ernest Leah, general manager of the Burnley Express, presented the awards and thanked the public, the officials for organising the event, the referees and the players who had taken part. Mr. Walter Sutcliffe officiated as MC.
