All systems are going well on the Burnley central area redevelopment site, report the builders. This week they have completed the work on the row of shops on the perimeter of the market hall, and these are being handed over on schedule to the shopfitters for the internal work. Its hoped that four or five of the shops will be trading by Christmas. As the work on this part progresses, with the scaffolding and hoardings taken away from the frontages and the roads and pavements made up, the public will be able to get some idea of the appearance of this part of the scheme. It will also be useful for traders who will be able to estimate what impact this shopping centre will have, and it will be interesting in the next few weeks to see if there is an increase in the lettings as prospective tenants form their judgements from an on-the-spot tour instead of from blueprints. Work inside the impressive market hall is also going wll. Now that the arched roof is complete, the winter weather will prove no hold-up for the men at work in the enclosed area below. Once again, a better assessment of the future prospects of the scheme can be made than ever before. A feature of the scheme that ha provided some headaches which needed solving was the unique design for the cinema and amusement hall.
