Steady, strong, sensible ...Eric can become top-class player

Ready to start training again.... Eric Probert passes some of the summer away looking through a selection of soccer pictures at the Burnley Express office.

Burnley's biggest thrashing of the 1966-67 Season Game just over two years ago when they went to Hillsborough and lost 7-0 to Sheffield Wednesday. Salt was really rubbed into the wound when Burnley born stripling Jack Whitham scored twice against his home town club. It is not without irony that just as Sheffield had lured a Burnley boy across the Pennines, so the clarets were about to whip one of South Yorkshire's Best prospects under Wednesday's nose. The lad in question is Eric Probert who was a VIP guest of Wednesday at that match. They hoped to capture him as an apprentice professional and must have been somewhat surprised where instead of joining them he opted
for the club he has just seen completely and utterly humiliated. Burnley's pathetic performance did nothing to change Eric's mind about coming to Turf Moor, the Club he liked best after having trials at many other clubs. The atmosphere at turf Moor was noticeably different to the others, they made me feel at home straight away.
