From a longer article by Keith McNee:
Britannia Wanderers, the all-conquering Padiham football team that died six weeks ago with the Spanish air crash, was born again last night, the 10th August 1970. And started off with a resounding 4-1 win over Padiham FC. Four stars and three supporters of the team which carried all before it last season in the Burnley and District Sunday School League died in the Comet disaster. But last night a big crowd turned up at the Arbories to see the "Brit" battle on in a pre-season friendly.
Team manager, Mr. Tommy Helm, whose teenage son Peter was one of the four players who lost their lives, led his royal blue clad side out on to the pitch. It was a poignant moment. Mr. Helm said "We had so many players coming forward volunteering their services that this season we will have two sides in action compared with only one last time. In fact we have a total of 40 players and our first eleven will play in the Third Division of the Burnley Amateur Combination and the second team will be in the Sunday School League where we did so well last season. The way people have rallied round has been wonderful and we want to thank the Press in particular for the way they have helped us in the crisis. We shall never be able to forget the awful disaster that struck us, but keeping the team together will, I am certain, be a big help."
