Burnley and District Pakistani Association's first Independence Day celebration luncheon on Saturday 15th August 1970 was attended by Mr. Mujahid Hussain, Pakistani Acting Deputy High Commissioner, and his Government's representative in the North. Before the luncheon he was met at the town hall by the Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley (Ald. and Mrs. E. J. Willis) and Mr. Rafiq Malik (the secretary of the Burnley Association, which organised the luncheon at Rosehill House Hotel), Mr. M. S, Bhatti (the association treasurer) and Mr. M. Yaqub (secretary of the Islamic Trust in Burnley). Also there was Mrs. F. Green (secretary of the local Community Relations Council) and its chairman (Mr. E. Hanson).
Among those who attended the luncheon for 50 guests were Mr. Dan Jones, the Borough Member, representatives of political parties in Burnley, trade union representatives and association members.
