The man with "Flower Power" is Mr. H. Bispham, of Padiham, who won the cup for most points in the Padiham show.
In spite of high winds and wild weather during the previous week, which damaged many gardens, the Padiham Allotments Association Show at the Town Hall was very well supported. The Padiham Show was revived last year after a lapse of many years, and there was an increase in the number of exhibits, 329 in the 38 classes.
The trophy for the most points in the show was won by Mr. H. Bispham, who was placed first in five dahlia sections and in the pot plant with foliage section. Mr. Bispham was equally successful in the vegetable section, being placed first in the four potatoes (round) and one cauliflower with roots sections.
Mr. K. Taylor won the trophy for the best in the flower section, being successful with three chrysanthemums (incurved) and three chrysanthemums (decorative). The floral art section was won by Mrs. C. Parker, and the most points in the egg section were scored by Mr. F. Walmersley.
The judges were: Mr. F. Cottam (flowers and vegetables); Miss. D. Wiseman (floral arrangements); Mr. W. Altham (eggs). The trophies were presented by the chairman of Padiham Urban District Council, Councillor Mrs. Sheila Maw.
