Arthur gets his birdie

Mr. Aspden aims for a birdie. Rookie golfer Arthur Aspden can boast one of the most unusual "birdies" ever witnessed on a golf course. Arthur, from Worsthorne, was playing at Pleasington with his friend Roger Livesey, and as his own ball was sticking up like a sore thumb after he hit it right down the fairway and his partner's was in the heather he went to help Roger find his ball. When he turned round, he saw a huge crow flying off with his ball, which made him "raven" mad. A new ball was dropped but he lost the round. The Club Assistant at Burnley Golf Club said such incidents were known, but very rare, and could offer no explanation. However, the Rules say if the ball is moved by an outside agency, the player will incur no penalty."
