At a St. Patrick's night event at the Gretna Green pub, Senior Citizens from the area were treated to a basket supper and £2 each from the pub's "bottle" collection. Half of the fund was used for this and the rest to buy three high chairs for the children's ward at the Burnley General Hospital. The chairs were presented to a representative of the hospital Mr. E. Pickering. The landlord, Mr. John Ainsworth, also presented the oldest person at the party 94 year old Mrs. Clara Counsell with a bouquet. Music was provided by accordion player Mr. Frank Rowley who played a selection of appropriately Irish tunes. Mr. Ainsworth said everyone had thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
