THE servicemen from Colne who lost their lives in the First World War were remembered on Saturday by the local members of the Royal British Legion Club.
About 15 club members met at Colne Cemetery at the weekend, just a week before the official Remembrance Sunday services, to lay 50 crosses on lawns there.
Vice-chairman of the Legion and standard bearer Mr Cyril Dinsdale said: “We started this ceremony about five years ago when we found out that there were several First World War Servicemen buried in the cemetery. It is a simple and small ceremony but one which is much appreciated by relatives and which we feel is very important.”
