A BUMPER fund-raising effort took place at St. Clement's Court, Barrowford, on Saturday, when nine youngsters took on press-up king Mr. Tommy Gildert in a charity challenge.
The youngsters were from Primet High School and for nearly half an hour they kept pace with the super-fit Mr. Gildert.
At the finish he had completed 1,215 press-ups while they managed a courageous total of 989.
In addition Mrs. Dorothy Kay, of Gatefield Court, went on a sponsored walk round Towneley which raised £80 and there was a further fund-raising boost by a garden party and nearly new sale held at St. Clement’s Court. The money raised is to go to the Anchor Trust, which aims to help elderly people with housing difficulty, and the event on Saturday was organised by Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Eileen McQueston, warden at St. Clements Court. Mrs. McQueston said this week: “It was an absolutely marvellous day and I would especially like to thank the nine lads. They are only 14 and 15 and it is fabulous that they should want to come and help like this. The day was a tremendous success. We expected to raise about £150 but when all the money comes in I think it will be about £400.”
The boys who took part in the sponsored press-ups were Clark Nutter, Glen Ingham, Patrick Ruddy, Paul England, Robert Wilson, Richard Walton, Damian Dickinson and Nigel Charlton. Our picture shows the lads along with Mr. Tommy Gildert.
