Without doubt Caroline Taylor is the singing star of Kings Rhapsody presented by St Stephens operatic Society but the acting honours must go to Jeffrey Pratt (Niki) and Dorothy Spencer (Queen Mother) whose impeccable performances gave credibility to Ivor Novellos romantic nonsense. This was Caroline Taylor is most demanding role to date but she came through with flying colours. Her singing was the high spot of her performance and she benefited from playing opposite Geoffrey Pratt whose experience shone through every line. Jeffrey in the part of Niki, the king was the typical suave and articulate hero and without overplaying reminded us of the matinee idols of bygone days. Dorothy Spencer was in her element as the Queen Mother, bitchy gracious and scheming yet still a charming woman. She was always in command of every situation.
