There's still hope that the common market may foot part of the bill for the ambitious Rowley Tip reclamation scheme. That is the view of East Lancashires euro MP Edward Kellett Bowman who says a previous rejection of the scheme may not be final. Kellett Bowman, Chief Executive-Brian Whittle and Clerk to LCC-Brian Hill visited the tip site before a resubmission of a claim. The Rowley scheme involves the creation of a new River Valley and turning the old colliery waste tips into a landscaped recreation area and should cut the pollution to the rivers Brun and Don. Because it was such a multipurpose scheme it could qualify for grants under a number of headings and because LCC is so interested it shows that it was more than just of pure local significance.
