Mr and Mrs Broxton hand over the record player to Mr Hitchen.
Burnley Social Centre's dances for the blind should go with an extra lively swing from now on, for this week members were presented with a £70 record player. The gift was accepted by Mr Harold Hitchen of Brier Crescent, Nelson, chairman of the social committee, on behalf of members. It was presented by Mr and Mrs L. Broxton. Voluntary workers for the blind, the couple raised money for the gift by a series of raffles, dances and events. The presentation took place at Lanebridge Social Centre, and among those attending were 80 blind members, officials and committee members of Burnley Central Committee for the Blind.
Mr. Hitchen said: "The record player will be a real boon for our weekly dances and will replace the one we got from Lucas 20 years ago. It was getting rather worn and needed replacing. Mr and Mrs Broxton expressed their appreciation to everyone who made the gift possible.
