The Mayor of Burnley, Alderman E. J. Willis, was invited to present money raised by the town's Pakistani community for the East Pakistan Flood Appeal, when the Deputy High Commissioner for Pakistan visited Burnley. At a reception held in Ebenezer Church Hall, Colne Road, attended by representative of the Pakistani community, the Deputy High Commissioner (Mr Mujahid Hussain), received nearly £1,000 from the local Pakistani associations. Mr. Hussain thanked the Mayor and the Pakistani Commission for their efforts on behalf of the flood victims. He commented on the great interest and help given by the British people to survivors of the disaster.

Donations were also received from communities in Blackburn and Nelson, in addition to money already given by Pakistanis in the towns. Mr Rafiq Malik, acting secretary of the Burnley Pakistani Association, said yesterday: "Because we live in Burnley our members thought it appropriate to the occasion to invite our Mayor, Alderman Willis, to make the presentation on our behalf."
