From a report by Keith McNee:
Burnley manager Jimmy Adamson had mixed feelings on this Boxing Day battle at Bloomfield Road, in which his side picked up a vital point and might have had two after their forceful second-half attacking display. The Clarets looked anything but a relegation side, playing superior soccer throughout. Despite this a draw was probably the fairest result as both sides could have had several more goals and neither really deserved to lose.

Burnley were behind after nine minutes when Burns fired past Walters after a corner that should certainly have been cleared but they were a little unlucky on the balance of play to be behind at the interval and although Blackpool continued to pack their defence after the break an equaliser soon looked on the cards. It came after a lovely through pass from Nulty to Casper who would have scored with a right-foot shot had not the ball struck Alcock on the leg and bounced for a right-wing corner. Thomas took the flag-kick from which West pushed the ball forward and Alcock's intended clearance went straight to Casper about 10 yards out. He made no mistake with his left foot, rocketing the ball into the furthest corner. Casper was unfortunate from another pass by Thomas laid on a great chance for Probert who was unable to take it after an unkind bounce.
