When Burnley Light Opera Society decided to dedicate a prize to the memory of the late Harry Phillips, for outstanding achievement or contribution to the local amateur theatre, they asked the North West Regional representative of the National Operatic and dramatic association, Mr Lloyd Clitheroe to be the adjudicator. Mr. Clitheroe has this season seen over 60 shows and has no hesitation in declaring producer Brian Townend the winner of the 1979/80 trophy. Citing his productions of “Gypsy Baron” for Colne Operatic Society, and “Viva Mexico” for St. Cuthbert’s Burnley, Mr. Clitheroe said Brian Townend was a worthy winner. The article then gives a long list of all the other contenders.
