PENDLE’S annual civic ball held at the Silverman Hall, Nelson, on Friday night, was voted a big success by the 200 or so people who attended.
The accent, despite a vast array of civic chains worn by guests from over a wide area, was on informality.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle, Councillor George Kerridge and his wife Gladys, welcomed special guests, who as well as civic heads included the local MP and his wife Mr and Mrs Doug Hoyle. They were all entertained hospitably, and during the evening a buffet supper was served.
Dancing was to the music of the Belvedere Dance Band and Smiles Disco, and an unusual but delightful cabaret spot was performed by operatic singer Soo Bee Lee, who was accompanied by Nancy Demlow.
