ONE HUNDRED and sixty people attended the Pendle branch of the National Federation of Retail Newsagents third annual dinner at the Dalmeny Hotel, St Annes, on Sunday.
“It was perhaps the most successful dinner we have held,” said one of the organisers of the event, Mr Tom Spiby. "The dance was an immensely enjoyable event and many of the guests commented on the quality of the evening.“
One of the highlights came when Mr Ronnie Hartley, a member of the Pendle branch, was presented with a silver salver to commemorate his year of office as President of the North West District Council of Retail Newsagents.
Mr Hartley was also one of the speakers during the evening along with branch president Mr Frank Hothersal and general manager of the “Daily Mail”, Mr Peter Chadwick, both of whose speeches were mainly in a light vein and much appreciated by the diners.
The guests enjoyed a five course meal and entertainment which included music and dancing, followed by a midnight breakfast before the journey home.
Mr Spiby acted as toastmaster and proposed the loyal toast. Mr Chadwick proposed the toast to the Pendle Branch of the National Federation of Retail Newsagents and Mr Hothersal made the response. Mr Hartley proposed the toast to the ladles and guests, and Mrs Ada Hartley, his wife, replied.
