The increasing popularity of the 110 Club has meant increasing pressure on space for the social activities of the various sections, as well as accommodation for meetings of the Order.
Accordingly, plans were prepared for a complete modernisation of the main lounge and now, after some two and a half months of work, it has been completely modernised at a cost of some £40,000 plus. The lounge itself has been extended by knocking down a link wall, which has resulted in an extension of the seating facilities. Tiled alcoves are a new feature of the lounge and a new wood slatted ceiling has been provided. The whole area now presents an ultra modern spacious aspect. The light, leather covered furnishings and the whole decor now add up to a completely "new look". The bar itself now boasts a long hammered-copper surface and opening off it is a fully equipped kitchen where bar snacks and hot meals are prepared.
There was an informal opening ceremony in mid-May when the modernisation of the lounge was complete, performed by Fr Bernard Charnock, Chaplain of the Knights of St Columba, Council 110, supported by other Knights. About 200 members and their friends enjoyed a cold buffet, followed by an evening's entertainment.
