Dusc Jockey Sue Cox puts on a record during a recent afternoon broadcast.

From a story by David Ayrton:
Prominent personalities from all walks of North-East Lancashire life will meet at a champagne reception tonight, 22nd January 1971, to mark the launching of the newest local radio station, Radio Blackburn. Despite its name, Radio Blackburn will cover a wide area of North-East Lancashire with a potential audience of half a million. Programme organiser Jack Thompson, who originates from Bolton, commented: "As far as we are concerned Burnley is every bit as important to us as Blackburn or any other town. In fact we are having a studio set up at Burnley Town Hall, although this will not be ready for some time." Radio Blackburn goes on the air officially on Tuesday 26th January and can only be received on VHF sets.

As well as giving out national and local news, there will be other detailed information of road and rail services, delays caused through road works, late duty chemists and the like and there will be a running news and information service each day from 6.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. giving up-to-the-minute information. Most of the air time during the day will be taken up by light music. The weekend will be centred mainly on sport with fans of the Clarets being able to receive reports of away games from the Burnley Express sports editor, Keith McNee and there will be news from other local matches and a local results service.

Station manager is Mr John Musgrave; programmes organiser Jack Thompson; and News editor Mike Hoskin. There will eventually be a staff of 25 at the station, quite a number being Lancastrians. The article gives much more information about the programmes and the managers.
