The tug-o-war was a tie between Cliviger Gentlemen and the Gordon Lennox pub.
Rain lashed Cliviger’s gala and sports day but spirits were not dampened. More than 300 people, mostly from the village, arrived for the gala clutching umbrellas. Rain did not bother Burnley Fire Brigade for the firemen were already dripping as the public lined up to duck the firemen at 20 p a go! Perched on a pedestal 10 ft. above a freezing cold pool, the weather was the least of their worries as they were constantly flung into the water, as they raised money for the Firemen’s Benevolent Fund and Cliviger Sports Association.
