Sandra Morris

Sandra Morris, the winner of a competition organised by the newly formed Junior branch of the Civic Trust.
The organisation simply wanted to know what young people thought were the ugliest buildings so they sent out entrance forms for the top ten monstrosities competition. There were 250 entries and the top ten in order of placing in the competition are:
Corporation Destructor Works, The Palace Theatre, Centenary Statue, Aenon Baptist Church, The Town Hall, Massey's Brewery, The Culvert, The former UCP Tripe Works, The Keirby Hotel, The old Fire Station. The list is certain to raise a few eyebrows and "the beauty lies in the eyes of the be-holder" is certain to come into the argument.
High School girl Sandra of 64 Thursby Road Burnley, whose list is nearer to the general opinion, also includes The Education Offices, The School Clinic and the Fountain. Says Sandra "Some of the buildings in the town centre are horrible but I realise a lot is being done to make them look better". She says her list (which omits the Keirby Hotel and the Town Hall) is compiled of what she believes are real eyesores.
