Sparks Shows His Class In County Game

Watching the county second XI match at Turf Moor on Wednesday 23rd August: Mr. C. R. Davies (president of the Lancashire League), Mr. A. W. Carmalt (Burnley CC). In front: Des Sparks (Lowerhouse), E. Slinger (Accrington) the Lancashire 2nd captain, and Mr. H. T. Langton.
Lowerhouse's South African fast bowler Desmond Sparks captured three wickets and took two catches in Lancashire 2nd team's drawn match with Derbyshire 2nd at Turf Moor. Eddie Slinger (Enfield) hit 71 in the home county's first innings and 66 not out in the second. John Sullivan scored 71 not out and 50 not out, and Knox 74 and 22. Derbyshire, facing a declared total of 251 for four, were 154 all out on Thursday morning the 24th August, just saving the follow on by three runs. Lancashire, declaring again at 147 for one, left the visitors 210 minutes to score 245, but they made no attempt to win.
Feature of yesterday (24th August) was a brilliant catch by Slinger which dismissed Harvey-Walker. Lancashire tried 10 bowlers in the second innings in an effort to force their way through the visitors' battling.
Lancashire 2nd: 251 for four dec. and 147 for one dec.
Derbyshire 2nd: 154 and 134 for four.
