Manager's confidence paid rich dividends. Burnley (0) 4, Aston Villa (1) 2. Burnley Manager Harry Potts had ignored 4 defeats in 5 outings, and thus gave his senior squad a real vote of confidence when he named an unchanged side for this game. "They learned their lesson at Sunderland and you'll see a very determined team this time" he had promised.
How right he was! Along with confidence and concentration, determination was one of the main qualities which won this match. Burnley pulling it round their way after being in arrears for 36 mins. The clarets can still improve, particularly in defence where some men looked apprehensive at times, but this was certainly a better show than at Roker. While the forwards can play as strongly as they did in the last half hour there must be great hope for the future.
It was Andy Lochead's match. For the fourth time in a senior team game he scored four goals and he led Burnley's second half raiding party in devastating, ruthless fashion, well supported by Harris, O'Neil, and Morgan. And, just to round off an afternoon he'll not forget, the tall, strongly built inside right laid on Villa's second as well - what a clanger!
