A big grin from Willie Irvine as Albion defenders fail to stop his shot which made it 2 - 0.
West Brom skipper for the day, John Talbut, on his return to Turf Moor, didn't know what he was letting himself in for, when he won the toss and set Burnley playing towards their "favourite" cricket field end. He knew which goal Burnley usually do most damage and preferred to defend the cricket field end while his new colleagues were still fresh, but how disastrously things turned out. Talbut's headed own goal in the 4th minute must constitute as something of a scoring record for a player returning to his former club.
This early goal was just the tonic Burnley needed and they proceeded to take West Brom apart. They were 4 goals up at the interval. The second half was bound to be an anti-climax, but Burnley should have at least doubled their score. Burnley in their last 5 outings have only failed twice to score 4 or more goals.
