ABOUT 350 Cubs, Scouts, parents and friends crowded into Nelson Swimming Baths on Saturday evening to watch the area's annual Cub gala.
The Cub pack from Trawden ended up victorious with a final tally of 27 points — nearly twice as many as the second placed pack. Second were Langroyd with 14 points and third were the 10th Nelson Hawks.
The prizes were presented by Coun. George Kerridge, a vice-president of the local Scouts and by the gala officials. They were provided by Colne Swimming Club.

The results of the various events in the gala were as follows: Beginner’s breadth: 1, Lee Kite (Langroyd); 2, Andrew Stell (Foulridge); 3, Stephen Clapham (Trawden). One length (under nine and a half ): 1, John Drummond (10th Nelson Hawks); 2, Nigel Dawson (Trawden); 3, Craig Parker (7th Nelson). One length (over nine and a half): 1, Mark Normanton (Trawden); 2, Jonathan Foulds (2nd Colne); 3, Mark Garner (2nd Nelson). Two lengths (under nine and a half): 1, John Drummond (10th Nelson Hawks); 2, Nigel Dawson (Trawden); 3, Ian Goddard (Foulridge). Two lengths (over nine and a half): 1, Mark Normanton (Trawden); 2, Robert Kershaw (Langroyd); 3, Andrew Waite Langroyd). Four lengths (any age): 1, Mark Normanton (Trawden); 2, Jonathan Foulds (2nd Colne); 3, Robert Kershaw (Langroyd). Neat dive: l, Craig Redman (Langroyd); 2, Mark McQuillam (St George's, Colne); 3, Sean Phelan "10th Nelson Hawks).
