Contestants racing through Towneley Park.
About 70 contestants ran round Towneley Park on Tuesday evening in the youth cross country run. Councillor Mrs. J. Foulds started the race off and also presented the trophies at the finish. There was a shortage of girl contestants and instead of having their own events those who entered had to run with the boys. The event was organised by Burnley Youth Office and Mr. P. Dibble (the youth organiser) was present.
Each team was presented with a shield which they will keep for a year and each member of the winning teams received a plaque. The individual champions were presented with cups. All the trophies were given by Lucas and the plaques by the Youth Office.
