Lord's M-Way Pledge - I'll back M6 Link (1 of 4)

Looking at a map of the Rossendale Road estate are Mr. Whittle, Lord Bellwin and the Mayor.
Local Government Minister Lord Bellwin is to add his weight to the area's campaign to have a full motorway link to the M6. He promised to take up the issue with Transport Minister Mrs. Lynda Chalker on the day he opened North-East Lancashire's Enterprise Zone and Lucas Electrical's new Rossendale Road factory. He described the North East Lancashire Enterprise Zone, with seven green field sites linked to the M65 Calder Valley Motorway, as a unique experiment because four local authorities working together have a zone in 100 square miles. After it was pointed out that links to the national motorway were vital the minister gave his undertaking.
Earlier Lord Bellwin visited the new Lucas electrical factory and saw for himself Burnley's Rossendale Road Industrial Estate, largest in the Enterprise Zone. He was invited to unveil a plaque, commemorating the opening of the giant 126,000 sq. ft. factory, by new Lucas Electrical divisional manager, Mr. Kenneth Wells, watched by council leaders and civic dignitaries.
After the Lucas visit Lord Bellwin travelled down the recently opened sections of the M65 motorway to the Dunkenhalgh Park Hotel to officially open the zone.
