Shooters-an apt name for Tommy's new pub

Former Burnley centre half Tommy Cummings has returned to the area as licensee of the Shooters Arms, Southfield, Nelson. Probably many who saw his famous 70 yards dribble and goal against Newcastle United in his Turf Moor days would consider the House title quite apt. Tommy joined Burnley as a youngster from his home town, Castletown, near Sunderland and had his first senior match when still in his teens against Manchester City, subsequently appearing in 600 first team games, being captain of the club, chairman of the Professional Footballers Association, Manager of Mansfield Town and then Aston Villa. His wife Joyce is a bubbly girl who at one time was employed by Joseph Lucas Ltd.
