League Cricket Loses Again To The Rain (3 of 4)

Burnley's professional Charlie Griffith signs his autograph for a young fan.
A downpour about 3-15pm spread over the Lancashire League grounds to spoil the Sunday matches after the customary blank day because of the FA Cup Final. Nelson had a £40 gate for the visit of Burnley, while Lowerhouse drew £5. 9s. for their home fixture with Todmorden, altogether another disastrous afternoon for home clubs.
Play was limited to 78 minutes at Seedhill where Nelson batted first and were 48 for two when the deluge ended play for the afternoon. Charlie Griffith took a wicket in his first over and bowled at a fair pace but received little help from the wicket. Greenwood was undefeated with 19 to his credit when the rain came.
At Lowerhouse play lasted for 71 minutes, Lowerhouse having lost 3 wickets for 43 runs. Gordon Jones taken at first slip; Peter Sutcliffe snapped up at second slip for 15, providing Todmorden's professional Syl Oliver with his second victim; and Malcolm Blackhurst bowled out.
