Peter Visits The Scene Of Past Triumphs

Peter Wight being greeted by Derek Riley, and also in the group are Jack Schofield and Derek Chadwick who played in the same Burnley team as the all-rounder who left Turf Moor for Somerset. A former Burnley CC all-rounder who in 1953 hit a century for Somerset against the Australian touring team led by Lindsey Hasset, visited the scene of some of his Lancashire League triumphs on Saturday. Mr Wight has just concluded his third season as a first class umpire and is on holiday with Mrs Wight and family at the home of his fomer colleague Derek Chadwick. Peter has an indoor cricket school at Bath and during the wintercoaches candidates for the MCC junior coaching certificate. Peter, of course, will be remembered as a member of the same Burnley team as Bruce Pairaudeau (subsequently a West Indies Test Match player) and Cec Pepper who was professional and also a county umpire. Peter has umpired Roy Marshall, ex-Lowerhouse professional, now captain of Hampshire, on several occasions, and sees Bill Alley, the ex-Colne pro, now seniro player in county cricket with Somerset.
