More than £60 has been raised from two matches between Padiham Cricket and Football Clubs for the Padiham Air Disaster Memorial Fund. On Sunday 9th August the two clubs met at cricket, when the football team was strengthened by Des Sparks, Jack Stott and Brian Higgin, of Lowerhouse.
The cricket club were victorious by just five runs in a very exciting finish. Batting first the cricket club totalled 141, with Martin Greenhalgh hitting an unbeaten 85. Sparks and Stott each took four wickets. Higgin and Sparks (33) were top scorers in the football club's all out score of 136.
But on their home ground and at their own sport, the football club got ample revenge by a 4-1 win. After Philip Hanson gave the cricketers an early lead, Brian Brookes (3) and Stephen Best gave the footballers the victory.
The cricketers were not disheartened by their defeat. Stephen Gee said: "We beat them by five runs, and they only beat us by three goals, so we won over the two matches 2-0."
