Prayer Service draws 200

Nearly 200 women of most religious denominations in the town were represented at the Women's World Day of Prayer service held on Friday at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Yorkshire Street, Burnley. Mrs. Anna Watson wife of the Bishop of Burnley, Rt. Rev. R.C.C. Watson was the leader, and readers were Mrs. Mary Towneley and the Mayoress of Burnley, Mrs. Elizabeth Bailey. The speaker was Capt. Mrs. Stephanie Garnham of the Salvation Army. The order of service was prepared by a group of Christian women in Thailand. A group of Catholic women who have formed a choir sang under the direction of Carolyn Taylor. Mrs. Ivy Cudworth, secretary of the Burnley branch of the Women's World Day of Prayer who organised the event said it was very well attended Next year the International Service will be prepared by women of the United States of America.
