Having a ball with Cinderella

A line-up of pretty maids and one laddie in the chorus of “Cinderella”.
A review of Burnley Pantomime Society Cinderella by Hilda Basnett. I think this is the best one so far. Burnley’s Cinderella is a super team job, and producer Alan Lawson has gone for speed and pace and the result is a delightful panto. Neil Tranmer is an old hand at capturing the children immediately, as Buttons. Tommy Lloyd is a splendid Baron Hardup, his real life wife Rita plays the Baroness spitting venom at every turn, the Ugly Sisters Leslie Tyson and Edward Munday are played with verve and energy. The love interest is supplied by Shelley Pickles as Cinderella and Susan Pickles is a dashing and attractive Prince Charming. Louise Hargreaves impressed me as Dandini. The Brokers’ Men are well played by Andrew Husband and young Richard Clifford who is one to watch. Anne Pickles plays the Fairy Godmother with an Irish accent, musicians are Andrew Hodder, piano, John Williams percussion and Tom Bardsley double bass. There are some very nice sets and stage manager Ron Parker and his team keep everything flowing along. Producer Alan Lawson and choreographer Hazel Hodder are to be congratulated.
