Jack and the Beanstalk 1985 with Rosemary Squires

Pendle children - and adults too – have once again taken the opportunity to see a professional Christmas pantomime staged right in the heart of the area. And patrons have come from much farther afield too.
Colne Municipal Hall has been the venue for thousands of people to enjoy “Jack and the Beanstalk," aimed at providing ~ something for everyone with glamour, song, and sometimes slapstick comedy.
Top singer Rosemary Squires, by now a frequent visitor to Pendle and a versatile artist who recently been in cabaret on the QE 2, plays Jack and she and Kay Carman as Princess Marigold provide many enjoyable moments of song for older patrons.
Bu children have plenty of chance to laugh at the comedy of Syd Jackson as the king and Dick Collins (Simple Simon), who are also experienced professionals who use the relatively intimate atmosphere of the Municipal Hall to generate plenty of audience participation.
There are thousands upon thousands of hisses for villains Cursicus, played by Alex Ward and Giant Grindbones (Tony Spence) and plenty of interest in Sally the talking Dog, first seen on the Esther Rantzen show. She provides a high spot in the act of magician Paul Coates, playing Dame Trot.
But there is a strong local touch too – a team of girls from the Debbie Trinder School of Dancing makes up the cast, and the Fairy is being played by Julie Warhurst, a former Pendle girl now living in Burnley.
