Fifty children from Hargher Clough Junior School gave pupils from Wood Top and Myrtle Bank Infants Schools a treat of music and dancing on Friday, with their pantomime, "The Witches' Wood". The pantomime was written by the headmaster, Mr J. T. Francis and the staff of the school. It was given in December as the Christmas pantomime and presented to full audiences of 200 parents at the school on Thursday and Friday evenings. On Friday afternoon there was a special matinee performance for 350 schoolchildren.
The pantomime was produced by Mr C, T, Lawson and Miss A. Halstead with costumes by Miss M.T. Paterson. Miss Joyce Heap, who visits the school each week to give dancing lessons, arranged the dances. Recorder and violin music was provided by 12 pupils from the school. Mr Francis said: "The pantomime has been put on for the past four years and we are grateful for the continued support of the parents. I am grateful to all my staff for the wonderful work they put in to make it such a success." About £30 was raised by the sale of tickets, part of which will be donated to the Mayor of Burnley's fund for deaf children, and the rest will go to school funds.
